Making Tracks
After Much Debate
After a considerable amount of debate with myself, I’ve finally decided what I want to do with my life. For the most part. I now have generalized goals that I can work towards.
The only problem with that, is I have to break them down. Now that I have figured out what it is that I want, I have to figure out how I’m going to get there.
So, what is it that I want? Ultimately, I want to travel the world and immerse myself in other cultures. I want to be able to experience the food and all that the culture has to offer.
How else could one experience the culture without learning the language. Far too many Americans assume that, others should have to speak English. Especially if they are tourist in their country. Wrong idea to have.
If you’d make an honest effort to learn their language, people will like you better as a person. No one should have to bend to your will, just because you think you’re better than them. When test clearly show your not.
Chances are, the foreigner is actually smarter than you. Yes, I’m talking to my fellow Americans. Our test scores are relatively low compared to an 8th and 12th grade level. Yep, the average British person is smarter than you.
What does this have to do with this post? Education obviously. If you’re going to travel, you’re going to have to educate yourself. Don’t act like a dumb tourist and stick out like a sore thumb. You’re better off hanging out with the locals anyway.
I’m going to be educating myself and learning what I can. Languages included. This time is crucial for me. Now, to actually plan out how I’m going to get there.
